Style Essential: Tom Ford For Men Eau de Toilette

To be perfectly honest we prefer the woodsy, citrusy aroma of Tom Ford’s Gray Vetiver,  but we are unapologetic suckers for sex in advertising.

Man Cave Essential: Baxter of California Jasmin Noir Candle

High-ish end candles are a lot like premium denim.  At first it seems like an insurmountable price to pay for something you could pick up at Old Navy for a quarter of the price.  But once you break that thought barrier and experience how far your money actually goes when you put it to good use, there is absolutely no turning back.  Baxter’s candles are the singular reason the Stuff to Get offices are warm and inviting, and the reason lesser (Yankee) candles now seem like the equivalent of cheap cologne.

Style Essential: Alden 405 Indy Boot

Harrison Ford may have given these boots some on-screen toughness credibility, but Alden’s High Work Shoe predates the Indiana Jones films by over 50 years.  Alden cranks out some seriously solid footwear, but to us this is just a really classy work boot that we would be happy to wear every single day this fall and winter.

Style Essential: Patagonia Outerwear for Apolis Uniform

For this design collab Apolis didn’t meddle with a proven design, and really where could they even begin?  Patagonia is already one of the most environmentally conscious and responsible companies on the planet, and they make some of the best outdoor gear on the market, bar none.  At $148 this is a slight premium over Patagonia’s stock $119 Torrentshell jacket, but both Apolis and Patagonia are companies worth supporting, so it is money well spent in our opinion.

Essential Wheels: Jaguar E-type XKE Roadster

The leaping cat’s racing heritage took root in the 1940s and ’50s and sprouted in the ’60s and ’70s into some of the most beautiful sports cars ever to grace our roads.  Jaguar’s E-type roadster embodied an absolute love of the open road, and that purity of purpose still translates today.  We love the classic chrome spoke wheels, but it’s the burly 5.3-liter V12 hiding in some that really gets us salivating.  Pristine, fully restored E-types can run close to six figures on ebay, but for anyone willing to put some elbow grease and sweat equity into one of these kitties, $30k buys a lot of lean, timeless muscle.

Style Essential: Topman Gray Wool Mix Duffle Coat

Topman always seems to be on point with their affordable seasonal styles, and this hooded toggle coat is a perfect example.  It may be a wool-poly blend, but it’s the fit and attention to detail that make this coat worth considering.  These may not have as much staying power as some more established and coat-centric brands, but for one or two winters of regular use and abuse, Topman has you covered.

Style Essential: Parker Jotter Ball-Point Pen

Montblancs are great for making a status statement with the written word, but sometimes we need something a little more utilitarian for getting our notes and thoughts to paper.  Parker’s Jotter is ultra light-weight, and while we miss the heft of weightier pens, clicking the Jotter’s clicky button thing is seriously one of the most gratifying sensations ever.  The sturdy brushed steel body can take a beating, and even if the dents and dings and battle scars of heavy use aren’t your thing, a shiny new one is only $9.

Style Essential: A. Lange & Söhne Grand Saxonia Automatik Wristwatch

There are watches and there are timepieces.  This is the latter.  A. Lange & Söhne have been a cornerstone of the Germany watchmaking industry since 1845, and their Grand Saxonia is an homage to Saxony’s architectural and precision manufacturing traditions.  The size (40mm) and clean lines hide one of the more impressive — both mechanically and aesthetically speaking — movements in any watch.  This is an investment, plain and simple, but one that your son and grandson will be happy you made.

Man Cave Essential: Waterford Champagne Flutes

Now that you have managed to bring her back to your home, there have to be some options better than PBR in your fridge for turning this after-hours drink into a clothing optional celebration.  Always — ALWAYS — keep a bottle of Veuve in the fridge, and always serve in crystal champagne flutes (Waterford’s Lismore Essence collection is our favorite).  Honestly, two flutes is probably all any of us will ever need, but there’s always that chance, no matter how remote, that you’ll need a third…  Why risk it by skimping?

Style Essential: Cole Haan Air Lenox Chelsea Boot

Never mind that Chelseas easily go from the office to the weekend.  And never mind that the elastic side panels keep the boots comfortable, narrow, and easy to get on and off.  Even ignore that the long clean lines of the Chelseas add a level-up in the perception of shoe size.  What’s important to remember is that they’re good enough for the Imperial Stormtroopers in Star Wars, and that’s good enough for us.
